How to Configure and Collect a Security Deposit
A security deposit is an important tool for protecting your property against potential damages or unexpected situations during a guest's stay. This guide will walk you through configuring a security deposit and collecting it from your guests.
Configuring Your Security Deposit
Step 1: Log in to Your Holidu Account
Access your Holidu Account and select the property you want to configure a security deposit for. If you manage multiple properties, you'll need to set the deposit amount for each one individually.
Step 2: Navigate to Configuration
On the upper left side of your dashboard, select "Configuration" and then click on the "Pricing" section.
Step 3: Set Up the Security Deposit
Scroll down to "Additional Fees" and select "Edit". In the pop-up window, add or update your desired security deposit amount. Click "Save" to apply the configuration to your property.
How to Collect a Security Deposit
Once configured, you'll need to collect the deposit from your guests. Always communicate your chosen collection method in the arrival information to avoid any surprises at check-in.
Collection Methods
- Cash on Arrival: Request the deposit in cash when guests arrive. This is straightforward and ensures collection before check-in.
- Bank Transfer: Ask guests to transfer the deposit a few days before arrival. This requires clear communication and advance planning.
- Payment Apps: Use payment apps like Bizum (Spain), Swikly (France), or PayPal for quick transactions.
Important Considerations
Flexibility for Guests: Not all guests can use bank transfers or apps, especially international travelers. Offering multiple payment options ensures a smooth transaction for everyone.
Timing: We recommend collecting the security deposit before check-in to ensure coverage for any potential charges.
Refunds: Return the deposit within 14 days after check-out once the property has been inspected and found in good condition.
Existing Bookings: Bookings made before your deposit configuration are not affected. You cannot charge a different amount than what was configured when the guest booked.
Airbnb Bookings: Security deposits do not apply to Airbnb bookings, as Airbnb handles damage protection through their own policies. It is forbidden to charge deposits to Airbnb guests.
